Karel Marinus Hendrikus Colnot 1921-1996, Oil on panel

Karel Marinus Hendrikus Colnot (1921–1996) was a Dutch painter and son of Bergen School artist Arnout Colnot. His early work exhibits the characteristic expressive style of the Bergen School, with powerful forms and deep tones. Around 1960, Colnot underwent a significant development in his oeuvre: he abandoned expressionism and began painting in a more structured, Cézanne-like style, with calm compositions and a building brushstroke.

Between 1961 and 1964, Colnot was an art teacher at the Murmellius Gymnasium in Alkmaar, where he further refined his craftsmanship.

This still life in oil on panel (58 × 48 cm) is a beautiful example of his later style: clear, balanced, and carefully constructed. A special work for lovers of Dutch art, the Bergen School, still lifes, and mid-20th-century painting.
